Discourse Community Ethnography

In the Discourse Community Ethnography you will examine a discourse community and analyze communication within that certain community. For this assignment you will need to apply what you learned in the previous journal “The Concept of Discourse Community”, by John Swales. In this journal Swales mentioned six characteristics that can determine if a community is indeed a discourse community. When you pick a community you will examine it with Swale’s six characteristics and prove that your community is in fact a discourse community. In this assignment you are required to utilize two of the journals from our class and link them to your discoveries. When you pick a community it cannot be one that you are already a part of. This assignment is 5-7 pages  (not including the title, abstract, or reference page, and it is organized like this:

- Abstract

- Introduction

- Literature Review (Compare the two readings that write about discourse communities (HINT: Porter and Swales)

- Methods

- Discussion

In this assignment you are required two have at least three sources, two of them would be the readings from class, and the last one has to be a primary resource. That primary resource can be anything ranging from an interview (that you conducted) or a personal observation.
